It had been 0C when they left home in Denmark yesterday morning ; and 18C with sunshine when they arrived in Roquefort les Pins mid-afternoon. Steen looked at me, breathed in deeply and said Just smell those lovely pine trees !

Last May it was the smell of gasolene and burned rubber that Steen was enjoying… here seen with some friends at the Monaco F1 Grand Prix :

Place Rosetti hasone of the best ever ice cream stalls with over 50 varieties (including garlic, lavender and thyme!) along with the other restaurants and cafes. All overlooked by the big and ornate St. Reparate church - appropriately undergoing ‘reparations’ at the moment.

The new-look Place Garibaldi, redesigned to accommodate the trams,has got rid of most of the cars, and pedestrians can now wander safelywherever they want. Lots of interesting little restaurants here, plus the Mercurey cinema which always shows English language films IN ENGLISH.

The fabulous Palais Lascaris is squeezed onto a tiny narrow street, so you can’t stand back and admire it all from a proper distance…
